I was looking for something a little different than what everyone else is wearing, something somewhat "steamchic" without screaming "steampunk." This dress fit that description perfectly. When it arrived it was a little larger than I expected, and it had to be taken in. It is generous through the bust (in a good way for someone like me). It is also longer than I expected it would be after reading other reviews. The lace is very soft, high quality, with a good solid zipper. It has a generous built-in crinoline that creates the perfect amount of "pouf" in the skirt. No additional slip is necessary. I took it to a local dressmaker for alterations. She was very impressed with the quality of the lace, and said it would cost $400 for her to duplicate this dress. The only problem is the waist ribbon, which is needed to cover a somewhat unsightly waist seam. It rolls easily, and has to be pinned in place to keep it "open" and wide.
